Apicius restaurant

Paris VIIIème

The ability to create an illusion with a drawing magnificently reproduced on a gigantic surface

  • Drawing : François-Joseph GRAF
  • Hand-tufted wool : Dinès
  • Photographer : Jacques Pépion
Architect François-Joseph Graf called DINES in for the trompe l’oeil carpet, which splendidly brings to mind a classical 18th century cabochon paving. To give an impression of relief, a larger than life motif had to be created from a drawing, and the wool had to be tufted and chiselled by hand. This unsegmented piece covers the entire floor of the Apicius restaurant in Paris on rue D’Artois and perfectly fits into its decor.
